This is absolutely ridiculous! So many parents have child care issues as it is, myself included. Wednesday early releases were hard enough, now they want EVERY Monday??? Most of us work because we HAVE to not because we WANT to. We should have had a DSy in this decision!!!!

ReplyDeleteI would like to share some specific information regarding Monday PLC time for the Windsor Locks Public Schools.
ReplyDeleteIn the short time I have had the pleasure of serving you, the children and staff of Windsor Locks Public Schools, many of you have heard me say the research identifies a number of factors that empower and motivate professional educators. The top three motivating factors, in order of importance, are:
1. Increased student achievement
2. A voice in creating the future
3. Time to have meaningful discussions with colleagues about student achievement, the art and science of teaching, and curriculum implementation.
In an effort to create the conditions described above, beginning in the 2011-2012 school year, we will be implementing a district-wide Monday afternoon Professional Learning Community (PLC) time. This time will be specifically designated to provide professional staff time to discuss student achievement, the art and science of teaching, and curriculum implementation. Potential activities are:
a. Data Teams – MAP, CMT, Common Formative Assessments
i. Discussions, interpretation, development, student action plans
b. Discuss, design and plan instructional strategies
c. Design interventions for students as determined by data
d. Lesson planning and design for Curriculum implementation (Numeracy/Literacy)
e. Lesson Studies – teachers observing teachers, discussion, common vocabulary
I recognize this early release could cause some hardship on your families. I respectfully request your assistance in planning for this time so our professional staff has the necessary time to have these very important discussions which will ultimately have a positive impact on increasing student achievement for your child as well as all children.

A letter from Superintendent Sweeney (or someone posting on his behalf) was posted on this blog. I am happy it wasn't posted on Facebook after the last Superintendent fiasco. :-) Hat's off to Superintendent Sweeney for being proactive in his response.
